“Almost three years of anorexia throughout high school led me to situations of horrible consequences—all of which left me hopeless and lost. Throughout my destructive behavior, I distanced myself and diminished all dependency on family and friends. Aside from those relationships missed, I broke my foot twice and discontinued my competitive dance career.  And most importantly, I lost out on time itself. I will have those years of my life back again.

In the beginning, I went to my parents for help. I learned that I had to start seeking help rather than waiting for it. Once I got back in a motivated state, I learned through daily practice, journaling, and genuine communication.  My recovery consisted of outpatient hospitalization, intense 60 day rehab, and a post-inpatient team until I was believed to be stable. Throughout these steps, I used honesty, open-mindedness, willingness, and dependency on others. I have a support group of professionals I can always turn to (and I often do) consisting of a psychiatrist, dietician, and therapist. I am loving my life, following my dreams, and staying balanced.”
