“I began binge eating at 12 years old to cope with stress, anxiety, and loneliness. My family didn’t see overeating as a problem. I never felt close to my parents, which made it easy to conceal my depression. My depression destroyed some friendships I had. The first and biggest step I took was seeing a therapist. Through therapy I was able to understand why I was binge eating. Writing was another method which helped me deal with my issues. The consequences I faced due to my depression and eating disorder were obesity, anxiety, seclusion, insomnia, and loss of friends. I maintain my recovery by continuing to see a therapist, writing down my emotions, and exercising. I am much happier and productive now. Changing my life has helped diminish my anxiety and improve the relationships I have with others.”
