“During junior high I began skipping lunch because I found it was the one thing I felt I could control and that I could handle. I grew up in a large family where I was forced to become the parent to my siblings and caretaker to my mother. I faced many consequences as a result of my eating disorder. My physical condition was terrible and only got worse. I realized I needed help and admitted myself to Presbyterian Hospital’s eating disorder program. I was so malnourished, I had to be put on a feeding tube. I had leaking valves and water around my heart. I had osteopenia, and I had a 60% chance of never having kids. Each day I wake up I know Jesus helped me get through this day. I learned I am special and unique. I was made to be me and there is so much out there for me to do and see.”
